How home cleaning prices are calculated: hours, scope and add-ons
What determines the cost of a home cleaning: duration, scope, add-on tasks and who supplies materials — plus what to ask before accepting a quote.

Direct answer
A home cleaning price is mostly made of three things: the hours booked, the scope of work and any add-on tasks. Floor area alone does not decide it — two homes of the same size can need very different amounts of time depending on their current condition. A quote that fixes duration and scope up front is more reliable than a flat list price.
The three things that set the price
Most of the cost comes from how long the work takes. The more hours a PRO spends in the home, the higher the price, broadly in proportion. So it is healthier to estimate duration first and discuss price second.
The second factor is scope: tidying living areas is not the same job as detailing the kitchen and bathroom. The third is add-ons — oven, fridge interior, windows or ironing each need separate time and are usually priced separately.
- Duration — the hours planned for the visit
- Scope — which areas, and in what detail
- Add-ons — oven, fridge, windows, ironing
Why floor area is not enough on its own
Two homes can share a floor area while needing very different time: one maintained weekly, the other not deep-cleaned for months. Pet hair, a heavily used kitchen or a second bathroom all extend the work.
This is why flat prices based only on square metres tend to either leave the job incomplete or lead to an extra charge being discussed afterwards. Describing the home's real condition up front protects both sides.
Who supplies the materials?
Whether cleaning products and equipment are already in the home or brought by the PRO are two different arrangements, and it shows in the price. If you prefer your own products — for allergies or delicate surfaces — say so in the booking notes.
The same applies to special equipment, such as a steam machine or an attachment for high windows. Agreeing it beforehand avoids the visit stalling on the day.
Four questions to ask about any quote
Comparing quotes on the number alone is misleading, because the same figure can describe very different scopes. These four questions make two quotes genuinely comparable.
- How many hours does this price cover?
- Which areas are included, and which are extra?
- Who provides materials and equipment?
- What happens if the time runs out — how is any extra charge set?
Avoiding a surprise charge
Almost every unexpected charge comes from a scope that was never discussed. Writing down priorities at the start lets the PRO distribute time correctly and removes the expectation gap.
In Hizmoo, duration is an explicit choice and the total is calculated server-side before you confirm. A scope change does not become a charge without your approval.
Frequently asked questions
How is the cost of a home cleaning calculated?
Primarily from the hours booked, the scope of work and any add-on tasks. Floor area helps estimate the time but does not decide the price by itself.
Is hourly or a fixed package better value?
When the scope is clear, hourly is usually more transparent — you can see how long the work took and what was included. With packages, ask where the scope ends.
Are add-on tasks included in the price?
Oven, fridge interior, windows and ironing take separate time and are usually treated separately. Mention them when booking so the duration and total are right.
Does the price change by city?
It can vary by service area and by the PRO's own rate. The amount shown once you enter your address is the amount that applies there.
